There are a few basic things that you must pay heed to if you want your vocal shortcuts to behave and work on the expected lines. Failing to do the fundamental things will hurt your experience. Basics aside, there is always the threat of a software bug destroying the smooth functioning of the custom phrases out of nowhere.

1. Ensure That You Are Speaking Your Custom Phrase in a Peaceful Environment

Bear in mind that the “Vocal Shortcuts” don’t work in a noisy environment. So, if you are trying to activate your custom phrase in a clamorous environment, it could be the main reason why the shortcut is not working.

2. Make Sure You Have Set Up Your Shortcut Properly

Another essential thing that you must tick off is to make sure that your vocal shortcut has been set up perfectly. Once you have input your custom phrase, you need to verify the phrase, without which it would be incomplete.

3. Delete Your Shortcut and Set It Up Again

If your custom phrase continues to struggle, why not altogether delete the custom phrase and set it up?

  • To begin with, head into the Settings app -> Accessibility -> Vocal Shortcuts -> Edit button at the upper right corner of the screen -> red minus button to the left of the shortcut.
  • Once you have deleted the shortcut, tap on the Done button at the top right to confirm the deletion.
  • Now, create the custom phrase by following the instructions.

4. Update Your Device

Is your vocal shortcut still misbehaving? If you are nodding in the affirmative, updating the software could be the right answer to your problem.

  • To update the software, move to the Settings app -> General -> Software Update -> If an update has appeared, go for it.

5. Reset All Settings

Factory reset is also a reliable way to resolve the vocal shortcuts issues. However, it does come at the cost of having all your custom settings wiped out. Though it seems to be a little radical, none of your important data is lost or jeopardized.

  • To factory reset, launch the Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPad/iPhone -> Reset All Settings.

Having factory reset your device, invoke a vocal shortcut to figure out if it is back into action. In all fairness, it should be live and kicking like ever before.
