Before moving ahead, it would be better to understand how this iOS Lock Customization feature works so that there is no confusion.

How do shuffling photos on the Lock Screen work on iOS?

iOS provides a native way to set photo shuffle on the Lock Screen. Depending on your preference, you can choose to rotate specific images or set a photo album to rotate on the screen. Talking about the shuffle frequency, there are four options to choose from:

  • Daily: Automatically changes images every day.
  • Hourly: Automatically changes images every hour.
  • On Tap: Automatically changes images whenever you tap on the Lock Screen.
  • On Lock: Automatically changes images whenever you lock your iPhone.

  • To get started, bring up the Lock Screen on your iPhone -> authenticate using your Face ID or Touch ID.
  • Now, you have to long-press on the screen and hit the “Plus” button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Tap on the plus button for lock screen
  • Next, choose the “Photo Shuffle” from the top row of options.
  • Next up, you have two options. While the “Choose Photos Manually” allows you to shuffle the selected images, the “Choose Album” lets you shuffle your favorite photos on the Lock Screen.

  • Once you have selected the images/photo album, tap on the “Add” button at the top right corner of the screen.
  • Up next, tap on the “Triple-dot” aka the ellipsis icon at the bottom, and choose the desired shuffle frequency such as “Daily, Hourly, On Lock, or On Top”.
  • Once you have selected the preferred shuffle frequency, tap on the Add button at the top.
  • Now, go ahead to set it as the wallpaper pair or customize the Home Screen separately.
  • And that’s pretty much it! Going forward, your iPhone will automatically shuffle the wallpaper based on your selected photo shuffle frequency.

Having given this cool feature a try, I can vouch for its smooth functioning. However, there are times when the photo shuffle wallpaper doesn’t work as expected. In that case, rebooting the device or updating the software will help you fix the problem.
