How to Adjust Volume on iPhone Using iOS 18 Vocal Shortcut

“Vocal Shortcuts” can let you perform a wide range of actions – be it system or Accessibility-related. But do you know that you can use the vocal shortcuts to adjust the volume of your iPhone or iPad as well? Yeah, you got that right! It’s possible to fine-tune the volume with a custom phrase. That said, let me help you set up this cool iOS 18 trick:

If you are not sure how fine-tuning the volume works using a vocal shortcut, let me tell you that you need to first create a couple of custom shortcuts for the Volume Up and Volume Down options respectively. Once you have verified the custom phrases, you will be able to use them to tweak the volume with ease.

If your device is not updated to the latest iteration of iOS, make sure to navigate to Settings app -> General -> Select Software Update -> Download and install the iOS/iPadOS.

  • On your iPhone or iPad running iOS 18/iPadOS, open the Settings app.
  • When you are in the Settings menu, tap on Accessibility. 
  • Head into the Speech section and choose Vocal Shortcuts. 
  • Now, tap on the Add Action button/Set Up Vocal Shortcuts.

  • To proceed, tap on Continue. 
  • Next up, scroll down to the System Section and choose Volume Up. After that, enter a custom phrase like “Up” and Verify it by speaking the “Up” phrase three times. 
  • After that, repeat the same steps to create another shortcut. But this time, choose “Volume Down” -> input the preferred phrase like “Down”. Then, verify the “Down” phrase by speaking it three times.

  • And that’s all there is to it! From now onward, you can adjust the volume by simply saying “Up” or “Down”.

  • For any reason, if you don’t want to use the volume up or down shortcut, return to the Settings app -> Accessibility -> Vocal Shortcuts.
  • On this screen, you should see all the custom shortcuts.
  • Now, you need to tap on the Edit button at the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Then, you have to tap on the red minus button and then tap on the Delete button.
  • Before leaving this screen, make sure to hit the Done button at the top-right to confirm the deletion of this vocal shortcut.
